30 things you need when moving to a new house

Whether you’re moving into a rental or your own apartment or house, you need to make sure you have those few important things when you move into a new home. On another note, it’s very important to know exactly what you need to do when moving into a new home.

Some of these things you’ll need in the first few hours of moving into your new home, when you’re too busy unpacking to go to the store. Others you’ll need the very next day, when you want to make breakfast or at least a coffee, even if you didn’t make any food on the day of the move, but most likely ordered pizza.

What things can you take with you from your old home?

First of all, before you move out of your old home, you need to make a precise plan of what you are taking with you and what you are not. The plan will revolve around the moving date, a few days before. If you know that it is not possible to move everything in one day, which is very unlikely, make a list of the least used things that you will take to your new home and start moving them first.

  • From the kitchen, sort the dishes and cutlery, only keeping what you will use until the last moment. You should do the same with the pans and pots, also don’t forget the kettle, corkscrew and can opener. Small appliances will be cleaned and sanitized before being put in boxes.
  • From the bathroom, take the cosmetics and cleaning products you will need in the new house, bathroom appliances only if they are well cleaned, wrapped towels, the clothes dryer and other items in very good condition that you will not give up. Also, the washing machine should be moved quickly enough to be put into operation after the first few days of moving.
  • Decorations, paintings, and small accessories are the first things you pack.
  • In the bedroom, pack everything by category, clothes, shoes, hats, bed linens and underwear, making sure that in the new house the storage spaces are prepared, clean and sanitized. For clothes on hangers, shirts, dresses, suits, use special zippered garment bags.
  • From the living room, fragile decorations are packed separately, as are musical instruments, TV, computer, game consoles, CDs, vinyls, and will be protected from dust in plastic bags and then in boxes.
  • The books will be packed in not very large boxes, because they are heavy, difficult to transport, and the boxes don’t always last.
  • The carpets will be wrapped in stretch wrap after being taken to be cleaned, and the paintings will be protected with plastic bags and cardboard boxes.
  • Off-season clothes can be moved into cardboard boxes very easily.
  • Write legibly with a thick marker on all the boxes inside.

What you need in your new home, from the very first days
